The story of ComfortKIDZ – UZ Brussel

“With Doctolib Siilo, we can provide care faster, more safely, and together”

ComfortKIDZ

Within the children’s hospital of UZ Brussel, ComfortKIDZ, the Pediatric Palliative Liaison Team, faces the daily challenge of coordinating care for children with life-threatening conditions. The team connects hospital departments, general practitioners, and home care providers, ensuring that families are not burdened with passing on medical information themselves.

The ComfortKIDZ team emphasizes that Doctolib Siilo plays a key role in making this possible.

Communication that makes a difference

Previously, information exchange was often cumbersome. Email was not always suitable, phone calls took time, and parents frequently ended up acting as messengers. With Doctolib Siilo, that has changed. The platform now serves as a central hub — secure, direct, and accessible to both hospital teams and external caregivers.

It ensures that everyone has the same information at the same time. That brings transparency and speeds up decision-making,” say Willem Beets, Marijke Berghman, and Lieve Van der Auwermeulen, nurses of ComfortKIDZ, the pediatric liaison team of UZ Brussel.

Real-world examples

  • Faster return home: When following up a child with short bowel syndrome and a stoma, information was shared daily through Doctolib Siilo. Willem explains: This allowed us to closely monitor the child’s progress and intervene in time. The child was able to go home sooner, with full assurance that the quality of care remained intact.”
  • Rapid coordination in emergencies: When a child with a central catheter developed a fever, immediate action was required. Through a message in Doctolib Siilo, doctors, nurses, and home care staff were informed right away. This made the journey from home to the emergency department and hospital admission much more efficient.”
  • Support in complex care trajectories: Doctolib Siilo also proved valuable in home care during the final stages of life. External caregivers could immediately connect with the multidisciplinary team. This increased trust in the collaboration and brought peace of mind to everyone involved.”

Less burden for families

The benefits for parents are clearly noticeable. Lieve says: Because caregivers are better aligned, parents have to coordinate far less. They see that actions are taken more quickly and consistently. This reduces pressure on the family and improves the quality of care.”

Looking ahead

The ComfortKIDZ team expects the role of Doctolib Siilo to continue growing. Marijke notes: As more hospital teams start using Doctolib Siilo, care will become even better integrated. It fosters collaboration and makes a patient-centered approach the natural way of working.”

Their advice to colleagues who are still hesitant: Start small — launch a pilot project. You’ll quickly notice that the benefits are significant and the learning curve is minimal.”

Doctolib Siilo strengthens collaboration, reduces complexity, and enables better care — precisely when it matters most.
